When you don’t have the time or money to hop on a plane and take a traditional vacation, a relaxing staycation might be the perfect way to unwind for a few days. Luckily, New York City is so large and diverse that there are plenty of opportunities to explore new places without leaving the city. Here’s your guide to taking a staycation right here in the Big Apple.
Find a New Neighborhood to Explore
Since the whole point of a staycation is to feel like you’re escaping your everyday routine, it’s important to find a place that doesn’t feel like home. New York City is home to hundreds of neighborhoods that are inhabited by people from all over the world, especially in Brooklyn and Queens. It should be easy to find somewhere new to explore that’s only a short train ride away. Ask your friends for suggestions or search online to find the perfect location for your staycation.
Want to Bring a Friend?
Staycations are great because they’re affordable and quick. If you don’t want to take your staycation alone, bringing a friend along should be as easy as sending him or her a text. Also, having a friend join your staycation means that you can split some of the costs, making the trip even more affordable.
Have at Least One New Experience
On a staycation, it’s fine to just relax and do all of the reading, eating, and staying up late you would normally do while on vacation. But try to have at least one new experience during your staycation. Try eating a new type of cuisine at the Smorgasburg, taking in the city’s history at the Tenement Museum, or enjoying the sunshine at Rockaway Beach.
