No matter where you’re from, nothing beats a day at the movies. (Plus, movies are great study aids for English learners!) The Coney Island Film Festival celebrates independent films, and a variety of documentaries, comedies, and other pictures will be aired, with proceeds benefiting the non-profit arts organization Coney Island USA. Tickets range from $8 to $50.

Oktoberfest New York

What better way to ring in fall than Oktoberfest? This year’s event spans four weekends, so there’s plenty of time to take in all those brats, pretzels, and (of course) authentic German beer! This family-friendly event features games, entertainment, and contests. Admission is free, but food and drink tickets are available for purchase online.
