Students who are studying English to advance academically and in their careers work long and hard to conquer the language. TOEFL preparation is an extremely important part of the process that most students focus on for months in advance of the exam. If you’re planning on taking the test, make sure to follow these three tips to ensure you’re ready when the testing day arrives.
1) Listen to the English language as much as you can.
Your television is a great tool to help you learn the intricacies of the language. Even if you’re in the kitchen preparing a meal, it’s beneficial to have an English-language show playing. Your brain will benefit immensely from listening, even if you’re not watching. Through listening, you will absorb new words, learn how common phrases are used, and hear proper pronunciation. Listening to the radio, especially broadcasts and talk shows, is another way to incorporate English into your daily routine.
2) Speak English every day.
If you don’t have class or an opportunity to interact with a native English speaker on any given day, don’t let that stop you from practicing your speaking skills. Talk to yourself as you do common tasks. Speak out loud, giving step-by-step instructions on how to complete the task. You can always read a newspaper, magazine, or book out loud as well.
3) Practice your writing skills.
There are many opportunities to practice your writing skills on a day-to-day basis. You can write your daily to-do list or even your shopping list in English. Write a letter or email too, or try joining a community on social media where you can practice your writing skills in a no-stress environment.
TOEFL preparation is all about getting in lots of practice. So, make sure you work on developing your skills each and every day.
