New York City SkylineNew York is full of great entertainment — from live music and Broadway shows to just about any sporting event you could ask for. If you are in the Big Apple for a short time, you might be overwhelmed with all the options, but taking a guided tour of the city can be a fun way to explore the many unique areas of the city while learning about the culture and background of this iconic place. As you study ESL in New York and find yourself in need of a break, check out these fun tours to participate in.

Scott’s Pizza Tours

What better way to sample New York’s finest pizza than with this delicious guided tour? You even get a few options with this tasty tour. You can hitch a ride on the NYC Pizza Bus or go on foot with one of two pizza walks. All give you an opportunity to learn a little about pizza history and sample some of the best slices in the city.

Municipal Art Society Tour

Learn about New York’s iconic architecture, enjoy local art, and discover the birthplaces of famous New Yorkers with locals and tourists alike on an architecture walking tour of Manhattan. The tour is led by architects, geographers, and art historians, giving you a great chance to mingle with local professionals and learn some of the dialect. More than just a fun time, this can be beneficial to you because while you study ESL in New York, you should be taking every opportunity to practice conversational English with native speakers.

Hush Tours

If you enjoy hip-hop culture, you’ll want to check out this tour. You’ll have an exciting chance to explore “The Birthplace of Hip Hop” through dance techniques and graffiti artistry. With the opportunity to MC and DJ, you might even get to drop a beat or throw down some rhymes. Guests can also expect to meet some hip-hop legends such as Reggie Reg, Kurtis Blow, and Grandmaster Caz. You never know what can happen.

Citifari Tour

Grab your camera and come along on a fun photographic journey across the city. You will have an opportunity to capture breathtaking photographs of some of the city’s most popular sites while tour guides offer advice on techniques for creating awe-inspiring pictures. As one would expect from a NYC photography tour, you’ll get the chance to recreate those postcard images of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, Central Park, Radio City Music Hall, and many others.

These are but a few of the exciting tours you can enjoy participating in as you study ESL in New York. At ALCC, we like to encourage our students to get out there and practice with real native speakers.

Thanks to Randy Le’Moine Photography for the photo of the New York skyline.
